Why did you choose the Statkraft International Trainee Programme?
Growing up, I always dreamed of becoming a vet because I loved animals and wanted to contribute to something meaningful, something that would make the world a little bit better. Today, I find myself working for Statkraft, Europe's leading renewable energy provider.
Renewable energy is essential for our future, and I am incredibly motivated to make a real impact in this field. And I’m definitely working on something that is making the world a bit better! I chose Statkraft’s International Trainee Programme because I expected it to be a journey of immense learning, new connections, and an entirely new domain for me—renewable energy. After being on board for some time now I can definitely say that my expectations have been fulfilled.
Tell us about your trainee experience so far!
A typical day as a trainee at Statkraft is non-existent—every day brings something new. I could be preparing meetings with stakeholders, working on-site, or doing safety inspections at a solar farm. The variety in my day-to-day activities is what I enjoy the most about this programme.
It's flexible and allows me to be hands-on in various projects. The most surprising thing I've learned is that, despite the obvious need for renewable energy, there are still many obstacles to overcome. But there are many opportunities as well! For example, I was surprised to discover how effective solar energy can be in the Netherlands, despite the limited sunshine in the country.
What would you say to a friend who was interested in the programme?
The best thing about being a trainee at Statkraft is the opportunity to meet so many different people and learn so much — not only about renewable energy but also about yourself. You really get to explore different departments, roles, and ultimately, where you see your future.
